Mile 18 has arguably the best quality stone for bouldering in the state. If you are into tall and challenging granite boulder problems, this is the place to be. Many moderate boulder do exist for those who wish to develop, but most of what has already been established here is in the advanced category. Come ready to crimp on some of Montana's finest.

Getting There

Directions to Natural Bridge:

From the East
To get to the Natural Bridges parking lot there are a couple of options. If coming from the east the best way is to get off at Big Timber exit 367 from I90. Drive through town following signs to state highway 298. Continue on state highway 298 for 25.1 miles and there is a sign designating Natural Bridges state park. Turn here and you have arrived at the parking lot. Expect around a 2 hour drive from Billings.

From the West
If coming from the West such as Bozeman there are two options. The route described as above stays on main roads and is slightly quicker. Optionally, one can drive out to Livingston and then turn onto Swingley road (washboard) and take it to McCleod. See this map for details.

Directions to bouldering:

Once at Natural Bridge, drive past the parking lot and continue on dirt road for 18 miles (you should see the mile marker sign "mile 18"). Drive past the sign a few hundred feet and park at a small turnout on the right next to the river. Boulders are up the hill on your left (East) above the open, sometimes swampy meadow. Around a 2 hour drive from Bozeman.
