This is the wall just below the lookout tower at the summit of Moore's Wall. It is above the routes listed in the meat puppet area, and requires a little more of an adventurous spirit to get to. There look to be a few fun, relatively short lines up here which may or may not have been climbed before. I personally find it enjoyable to actually summit at the lookout tower, especially when bringing first timers. There is also a spire of rock nearby that is fun to scramble up on if you are looking for a day of exploratory climbing.

Getting There

This area can be reached easily two different ways:

The first is to get to the lookout tower at the summit and rap in from there. You can either hike up or top out one of the climbs on the left end of the meat puppet area and walk along the cliff edge to the right. Once you are at the tower, look for a stand alone evergreen tree north across a little gap from the tower. This tree sits back about 15 feet from the edge of the top of this area. Rap in here.

The second way is to go all the way to the right end of the meat puppet area and either climb up or walk around and up left to get to the spire of rock. From here, scramble over some rock angling up and right to reach the base of the main lines.

This is the central line in the summit area. There is a really nice landing for setting up the belay at the base. The line follows steeper climbing through a couple of small overhangs as opposed to bailing out right to easy 5.5 stuff....[more]   Browse More Classics in North Carolina
