RAIN AND WET ROCK The sandstone in Red Rocks is fragile and is very easily damaged when it is wet. MORE INFO >>>

This crag is bad ass.
If you have done the routes on the Spring Break wall and you're looking for more hard trad lines that are STEEP, this is your place. The MEB makes the spring break wall look like a kiddie crag (although those routes are bad ass as well)

You can expect to get pumped pulling sporty moves while plugging in cams and wires instead of clipping bolts, It's awesome.
5 routes ranging from 11+ - 12+ All of the routes are fairly bold and serious leads requiring hard moves off the ground with no protection, so bringing a bouldering bad is not a bad idea. (there is one sport route)

Little morning sun, after 9 or 10 it gets shade. The sun is close by when the routes are in the shade.

Jerry Handrens guide has a nice overview pic of how to get there with good descriptions of these bold routes... along with the rest of the great routes in Red Rocks

Getting There

Park at First Creek Canyon.
Walk across the desert to the overhanging block.

Take the main trail until you can branch right. Follow that trail paralleling the wash, it will eventually take you across at a waterfall and pool that seems to always have people hanging around. Very faint trails and random cairns will take you up the hill to the block.

Dying Breed follows the pretty seams and cracks through the nice varnish. Falling before your first piece would not be too fun, especially with out a pad. Once through the initial sequence and you have your first piece this climb is not run out, just spicy!Start on two chalked up small plates, take a deep breath and pull bouldery moves up and left to a stance to get your first piece. Continue up the steep wall with pretty good gear, there will be a section or 2 that feels a little bold. Get a go...[more]   Browse More Classics in Nevada

If this gem were located in the Calico Hills, it would be sprayed with bolts. Thank god it isn't!
