Hagen the FA of HDMBEFE feat David Hasselhoff

The main wall is a 100’ wall that’s mostly just less than vertical with the occasional steep section. The wall begins right next to the El Rito River. At roughly 90’ tall, most all routes on the main wall require a single 60m rope. Many routes have an inconspicuous metal dog tag at the base of the route to help in route identification.

Getting There

The Main Wall is the most obvious and impressive formation in the area. It's the first wall you will see as you hike in from the parking area.

Was up there this weekend on Sunday after climbing the El Rito Sport Area on Saturday. The Little River Wall is really nice, but needs a few more climbers to clean it up a bit. I was belaying on chronostasis while someone a route or two over pulled off a massive handhold cobble. Based on the rock fall path, it seems like most of the stuff is going to fall into the trees so you are probably safer standing close to the cliff, but either way, be careful out there. If you are climbing and feel a big cobble about to blow out, please shout some warning to those at the bottom end of the rope.

Overall this is a very nice area, with about the easiest approach you could ask for and some really nice climbs. We should probably make an effort to pack out some of the trash (i suspect left by non-climbers) around the approach trail.

The rock quality throughout the Main Wall seems to be totally on par with that of the main El Rito sport climbing area. It will continue to clean up, much like that at the old area continues to do :)

The routes here are very well bolted and the location is quite nice. Thanks for the welcome addition to NM climbing!

This place is a study in route-finding! I spent half my climbing time feeling around for holds. Makes for challenging onsights.
