Looking to climb glass menagerie in late March. Any info would be great. Is it typically warm enough this early in the year or are we better going to the south side? We have enough gear so not worried about that. Mostly conditions and weather.

GM is obviously almost always in the shade, so there's that the consider, but the bigger issue is of seepage from above. We tried to do it over Thanksgiving weekend, after seeing some unusually warm temps forecast for that time. However, the warm temps had melted the snow above the route, and both sides were flanked by waterfalls. The actual route stays dry up to the crux roof pitch, but above that it was soaked.

Still, if the temps are good in late March– which they probably will be– check out the route and see how the upper section looks regarding seepage. If it looks bad, just head over to the South Side.

I've been on it in March and been fine in a long sleeve t-shirt, and I've been on it in May and absolutely froze my ass off. YMMV.

Keep an eye on the temperature. Ice can be a big issue in early March. Even with ice you should be able to climb the pitches up to the roof. Just be careful around the base as big sheets of ice will come sliding off the top.

We climbed GM in late March a couple of years ago. You will have sun from morning to afternoonish. When we climbed GM, it was very cold in the am, but warmed up some because of the sun. No ice. Here is a pic from pitch 3 that morning.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
