  • Description

'The Lone Rock' is predictably at the end of Lone Rock Point. It is a 16ft tall dolostone boulder, surrounded by deep water about 30ft offshore from the mainland. It is mostly overhanging, and gets great late afternoon sun.

    Mmmm, dats a nice boulda!

Problems Range from V2 to V5.
The grades represent climbing out of the water.

I named these climbs, somewhat arbitrarily.
If there is already an existing name for these climbs, I can update the posting.

ALSO, it is important to note that climbing on Lone Rock Point its self is not allowed. Bolts have been cut recently, and (I have heard) the Diocese is currently working with Crag-VT on potential access in the future. Please respect their current rules, and do not bolt, or attempt to climb in this area.

The boulder, however, is within the public easement of lake champlain.

When there is a large & visible water mark on the boulder, this indicates low water levels. Be aware of water depth. I have never touched bottom, but there are some rouge rocks hiding here and there.
    Safe Climbing!

    Getting There

Best to access with a canoe, although you could hike out from North Beach, then swim to the boulder.
About a 15 minute hike/canoe from North beach

    Champ V2 5+  Vermont : Lone Rock
Start in a canoe, or in the water on the northside of the boulder. Move up to the rest spot, then akwardly move up to the left towards the Northeast corner of the rock. Use a large crack to move into the crux, and into the most overhung section of the boulder. Go for the big reach, or send the dyno to the top and swing out like a champ! Finish the topout with a high heel hook and a lot of stomach scratches....[more]   Browse More Classics in Vermont

As stated in the description it is important to approach this boulder appropriately. There is a sensitive access issue currently going on at Lone rock point. If you do not approach this by boat you need to obtain a proper day pass or permission from the Diocese.

To add to DRusso the passes are free. Their office is open 9-5 weekdays and is located near their solar panels along the road from North Beach/BHS area. There is a parking lot and some big fields across from the office, you can park here.
