The routes here start on the right side of the prominent gully that splits Lightning Dome. It is home to a great variety of climbs, from hard slabs to moderate multipitches.

Getting There

Park at a large pullout at mile 21.1. Cross the highway to a roadcut and scramble up a left trending ramp to the trail. After about 100’ on the trail, saunter across the grassy hillside until positioned near a pair of massive Ponderosa pine trees at the base of a low-angle gully. Expect 20 minutes.

Stony Staircase Descent
Descend from this side by rapping down the low-angle gully. From the top of the climbs, scramble left to a “Y” shaped slung tree. One rappel into the gully ends at a tall Ponderosa pine at 2/3 height up the gully. Another 30M rappel ends at a slung block, where one final rappel lands you on the ground just left of “Jump Up”.

Head left on a small ledge system past a bush and a 2 bolt belay. 5.6 100’ P2) Climb off the ledge straight up or right (right being easier), then move left to a hidden-from-below bolt after about 40’. Climb the flake/cracks above to...[more]   Browse More Classics in Idaho
