Description

You have to check this one out.

The rock in the Highlands was formed a rift that allowed volcanic magma to surge upward. As the massive mountains that once were the Appalachian chain eroded, this harder rock remained protruding from the earth... and now we get to climb on it.

These rocks are light grey and weathered. The stone is super skin friendly, so after a day or two of pulling on the aggressive stone lower in forest areas in GHSP this is very welcomed.

Expect slopey dishes, jugs, and massive rounded pockets here. Most lines on LAVA are tall to medium in height and from V0-v3...

Getting There

Walking from Horizon toward Sunset, veer left before sunset and follow the pony trail. The Lava boulder is on your right.

Lava Flow Arete V2-3 5+  Virginia : Grayson Highlands State Par... : ... : Lava Boulder
If coming from Horizon, and if you veered left before Sunset this is the last problem on the wall/boulder. Walk along the wall and the final line on the arete will be "Lava Flow".Stand start and get high feet. Scale the arete through a small left hand hold. Higher there are nicer jugs to finish out on....[more]   Browse More Classics in Virginia
