I live in the PNW, I have a full week free next week and I'm looking for an adventure. Are things in at Moab, the creek or elsewhere? Looking for recommendations or places to stay away from this early in the year. I know snow is still on the ground in places. thanks in advance! TaylorLutz

The Creek can be good this time of year. It's desert so, if no wind and you choose a sunny wall you'll be fine. Are you planning to camp?

The thing that makes it difficult this time of year is the short days. When it gets dark, it gets cold. If it's dark at 6pm, camping looses it's shine. It won't warm up again until mid-morning. So if you go with the expectations of climbing from 10-5 and have plenty of stoke to get you through the other hours, you'll have a great time. However, there aren't a lot of folks around like there will be in the next month or so. Finding a partner may require a bit more effort.

Rock Climbing Photo: Broken Brain!
I agree with tx. Cold nights and short days make it tough. I went to the creek about this time of year once, and 5 other folks were there for a week. Most of us went solo. We had the place to ourselves! It was a magical week, and I'm still friends with that crew. Throw in some hot totties and lots of firewood, pancacke cookoffs and triple cup.coffee mornings and you'll be stoked. You might not get 8 pitches in but... If you climb at your hardest you really only need 3 or 4 climbs a day anyways.

There's a few cliffs that only get climbed when its really cold because they bake in the sun. Check out "the wall", it's my favorite sun cliff.

right on, good stuff. If handling boredom during the long evenings is the only problem then I can deal for sure. hopefully It will be warm enough next week that some others will head out there as well. thank you both for the recommendations TaylorLutz

Anything south facing in Moab is good right now. It's going to be in the 50's there this weekend. Nicholas King 1
