The boulders on the hilltop west of Lake Ramona are enticing from afar but less appealing when you get closer. Mostly a nice destination for a morning hike.

Getting There

Hike 2 1/2 miles to the Lake Ramona dam from the Blue Sky Ecological Reserve parking lot. The first part of the trail is very pretty. The last mile is a bit of a slog up to the top of the dam. From there you'll see the boulders in the distance, on the hillside northwest of the lake.

I knew this thing was going to be a classic for a boulder problem. I'm not certain that it's never been done before but I don't think it has. It's a difficult start on this sloping diagonal dike that trends up and right as you slap and smear your way to the top jug. The holds are excellent and the rock is impeccable. True gem of a find!...[more]   Browse More Classics in California

I read in an old guidebook that there are two very hard looking cracks up on the summit. Possibly the hardest short crack (40ft)'s in SD and possibly unclimbed. Any truth to this? Anyone want to hike up there and find out?

Lou! Check out the pics for this page, I'm adding some now. You think you got what it takes to send the gnar cracks braj? I don't think you're really that into climbing, bro.
