Kiliak Wall is a beautiful area with generally decent rock and fantastic views. The wall is south facing and gets sun for most of the day, a plus when climbing in the spring or fall. The routes here tend to be well protected and moderately graded.

Getting There

Drive to Eagle River and head to the end of Eagle River Road. Park at the Eagle River Nature Center ($5 parking Fee) and start hiking down the main Crow Pass Trail. After 5-10 min you will come to an intersection with the Crow Pass trail heading right and the Dew Mound Trail going left. Go Left and take the Dew Mound Trail for about two miles or until you come to a group of obvious large boulders (Frostbite Boulders). After walking past the largest boulders cut left on a faint climbers trail, sometimes marked by a small cairn. Take this trail up hill following a few cairns to the base of the wall. The approach should take 45-60 min from the car.

Start at 'Welcome to the Jungle' anchor. Stem past a bolt and nut placement into a steep, left-facing corner. Face climb left up thin edges (5.10a), passing a handful of bolts. Move straight up to a splitter finger crack (5.9). Jam this for 30' to chain anchors. A very enjoyable pitch. I recommend carrying wire brushes to clean dirty holds as this climb probably doesn't receive much traffic....[more]   Browse More Classics in Alaska

Some route setting gear (hammer, crowbar, drill bits, etc) was found in the area today along with a yellow rope and some pruning shears. There looked to be two freshly bolted routes, but the gear looked pretty weathered. Not sure how long it's been out in the elements. Anyone know who this belongs to?

Developers are actively working in the area. Please leave the gear up there.

That was my guess. Just wanted to make sure somebody didn't accidentally leave it behind and was looking for it. Thanks!
