Keeping the haulbag from getting stuck

Has anyone ever thought of a streched or rigid conical skirt to be attached on the top of a haul bag to have a greater chance of not getting hung up on edges or in corners while being hauled up bad terrain? Kind of like the funnel you put over the knot to keep it from getting stuck? Anyone seen or heard of something like this being employed in the field?

Bump. Curiosity...

I use a funnel above the knot for the same purpose as the 2 liter bottle but I'm talking about a funnel or skirt made out of the same fabric as the haul bag, that's as wide as the actual haul bag. If there's no rim of the haul bag to get caught on anything it might not get stuck in narrows or ledges anymore.

That's more to protect the knot from abrasion as it tries to pass over an edge. The edge of the haulbag still catches that edge.

I've never seen what the OP was taking about but it could be doable. You could use one of those magic carpet slides. Cut out a cone and pop-rivet the edges.
Even if it works, it sounds like some nasty hauling to me.

Exactly!! I'm just wondering why if people have realized that the funnel/ 2 liter bottle works so well for the knot, why no one has thought about a bigger one for the haul bag. I've gotten my haul bag stuck on the smallest edges, soo annoying, any type of taper to the top of the bag would, in my imagination, cause a lot less hauling problems. But I also know how intelligent and resourceful climbers can be so it seems like this idea I'm having must have been tried out a couple of times and not worked or else it would be common place. I sincerely doubt I'm the first person to come up with this idea....

Tree skidder

They make exactly what you're talking about for skidding trees. This one would be big enough but it's pretty heavy duty. Maybe they make lighter ones.

Lol, that's really big.... I'd probably make my own out of the same material as the haul bag but..that's pretty much what I'm talking about. I'm more wondering why this isn't a staple on most haulbags. I expecting some old school big wall climber to post something about trying this out in the 70's and it failing for some reason or another...
