Description

The famous seaside area. This area has many sport and trad lines right on the waters edge. But there is a considerable amount of information that a climber must bear in mind before you climb at Jogasaki.

Please check all routes before you start climbing. In the last few years many routes are now TR only. And this area’s routes are ever changing, so be careful and visit this site and the JFA before you climb here for up-to-date information. This is because the Jogasaki NP is not thrilled with the “eyesore” of bolts and gear here. Installing new bolt is strictly prohibited throughout the Jogasaki coast without permission from the JFA and the Jogasaki NP. The same goes for re-bolting/retro-bolting. When you establish an anchor here make sure that you follow Leave no Trace ethic to the T. Do everything to not damage the trees on the cliff line.

All fixed ropes have been removed and are not allowed at any of the Jogasaki areas.
If the rules of the area are not followed use will be terminated. Please do not ruin it for everyone else.
・ Do not install or develop new routes.
・Do not leave any fixed rope, gear, or tat.
・Keep in mind that to leave some of these areas you must be able to climb out on a 5.7 exit route.
・ Dogs are not allowed
Also consider that in the high season many people visit this area and many people might be trying to leave at once so the exit route could become congested. Bring headlamps just in case.
Please use the toilet before you lower to start climbing. There are not bathrooms below and are very few “hidden” spots. There are many tourist to consider. There are a few toilets around up top. Become familiar with these and use appropriately.

Consideration of tourists
Jogasaki coast is a scenic area as a whole, the place bustles with many visitors on weekends. Be considerate when you climb. Try not to bring avoidable attention/noise to yourself.

Jogasaki is a national park under the jurisdiction of the Japanese Ministry. There are many rules and regulation in place like all national parks throughout the world. Please understand these before you climb or visit here.
Some include
・ Cutting of trees and making fires
・The use of firearms is prohibited (as it is in all of Japan)
・ Other behaviors that significantly alter the natural habitat of the area
・All garbage must be packed out
・ Animals, plants, and minerals must be left alone, follow Leave no Trace
・ Camping is not allowed
Paid parking is available, illegal parking and roadside parking is strictly prohibited. There is currently no overnight parking allowed. Some of the parking areas offer free parking on weekends. But if you are visiting for climbing to keep good relations if you do visit on the weekend please pay the 500 yen to park. The locals will appreciate this gesture very much.
