Jaberwocky Tower Rock Climbing
Jaberwocky Tower (left spire) with Colchuck Balanc...
Jaberwocky tower is a small, relatively obscure tower located just to the east of Colchuck Lake. There are at least two routes that go at 5.7 or less. The tower has great views of Dragontail and Colchuck Balanced Rock. You'll have this one to yourself. Don't expect sun while the sun is low in the sky. The climbs are short and are well-suited for shoulder season or a relaxing day in a beautiful area.
Jaberwocky Tower is located in the Enchantments directly between the Colchuck Balanced Rock and Colchuck Lake. Start at the Stuart Lake trailhead and head up the Mt. Stuart trail. At the fork around 2.5 miles at the signed fork head left for Colchuck Lake. Once you get to Colchuck Lake you have two options.
(1) Head around the northeast side of the lake. Hidden just over the creek there is a faint trail that ascends slope just above the lake. There is no cairn but if you search a bit you'll find it. After gaining some quick elevation the trail will start to traverse south along slope towards Colchuck Balanced Rock. A few scrambling moves are required through this section. Once you are roughly below Colchuck Balanced Rock look towards the lake and a relatively small tower (~100'/30m) will be waiting between you and the lake. Start dropping down towards the tower following the path of least resistance (through a boulder field and above some small cliff bands). Following this path you will arrive at the notch below the East Face route.
(2) Becky reports an alternative approach that begins at the SE end of Colchuck Lake. From there head east and ascent a gully (go left at the fork). This drops you off at the notch at the base of the tower where (1) also arrives.
