the dirt track heading down to the climbing

There are a handful of good rocks spread out on the hillside just outside the small village of Ineia which is up in the north west corner of Cyprus very near Akamas Peninsula National Park. Interestingly enough the rock here is a very hard sandstone instead of Limestone. It's a idyllic setting with some fantastic climbs.

Getting There

Starting from Ineia, pass through the village heading west. Pass the coop bank and coffee shop on the right, and at the three way crossroads take the middle road. At the junction bear left and head out of the village. Continue for about 1km (passing a road sign-posted to Droushia on the right). After the road starts to descend, two small roads appear on the left. The second leads to the army base and is guarded by "strictly no entry" signs. Take the 2nd of the dirt roads. It is marked with no entry signs and you feel like you shouldn't be driving up it, continue for about 500m. Just as the road bends left to head for the camp, take the small track (easily missed) on the right. If you have a good 4-wheel vehicle then you can follow the track to its end at the top of the crag. Alternatively park at the entrance to the track or continue down the track and park on the left half-way along before the it starts to descend.

You start from a large boulder. Pull onto a short well bolted slab. Then cruise up a the crack with some laybacks and onto the large ledge. From the ledge pull through several powerful pockets on the vertical face not as hard as it looks as long as you don't mess up your hand sequence. The crux is up high. Some crimps to a hidden pocket just below the big hole in the wall, that birds clearly enjoy. Other than the bird crap coming out of the hole I thought this was an outstand...[more]   Browse More Classics in International
