Description Suggest change

Indonesian climbing topo is in progress.

A lesser-known climbing destination in Southeast Asia with a lot of hidden gems for both route developers and climbers alike. From Aceh in the west to West Papua in the east, Indonesia has a wealth of climbing treasures to be developed. Unfortunately, detailed information about climbing routes in Indonesia is not publicly available. The best way to find out about the crags is to  connect with local climbers.

Indonesia lies between latitudes 11°S and 6°N, and longitudes 95°E and 141°E. It is the largest archipelagic country in the world. With many islands and volcanoes, most climbing places are formed of igneous rock (i.e. granite and andesite) and sedimentary rock (i.e. limestone).

Getting There Suggest change

Most airlines fly to both Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International (CGK) and Bali's Ngurah Rai International (DPS) airports. Once you are in the country there is plenty of options to get around. The most reliable way is to travel by air with reputable airlines preferably. If you are in Java taking trains would be the second best choice for traveling, wherein other islands the train system is not well-developed. Uber or similar companies (even there is a motorcycle version of it) are more common in big cities. Renting cars will give you more flexibility to go around.

Valid passport at least for 6 months required for getting a visa. You can get Visa-on-Arrival for 30 days for certain countries for $35 USD (per 2017). It can get extended for another 30-days once only. Visa Info Link
