Norway. Hurrungane.


Hurrungane is an important site for alpine and mountaineering in Norway. The 3rd highest mountain in Norway, Store Skagastølstind (2405moh), forms the natural highpoint in this relatively small area with a very high density of alpine >2000meter peaks.

Getting There 

Easiest accessed by the RV55, 30min east of Skjolden, or west from Lom. RV55 is closed in the winter. Many use Turtagrø Hotel as a base camp for trips to Hurrungane.

Approaches can be long.

Approach the route through Skagadalen to the emergency shelter Skagastølsbu, up the scrambling-section at the south-face to the "Corner", a step at the south-east corner of Storen, just below the top crown (at 2310 meters). This approach can take between 5 and 10 hours, depending on weather and route-finding.Traverse from the corner out to the "Galleries" in the east-wall.
