  • Description

    We found this area last Saturday, while searching for Armin's Crag. The weather was warm, and lots of climbers were in the canyon, but no one was at Fin Land, which faces generally southwest. Mike Endicott and I did six routes here, last Sunday. The weather was warm, and no one else was near. Who knows who bolted the routes and did the FAs?

    L->R:

    A. Short Overhanging Face, 12?, 1p, 25', bolts.
    B. Overhanging Left-Leaning Arete, 11-, 1p, 30', bolts & gear.
    C. Ear Rings, 10-, 1p, 55', bolts +/- gear.
    D. Edgy, 9+, 1p, 55', bolts +/- gear.
    E. Easy Crack, 5, 1p, 65', gear.
    F. Totem Pole (submitted as Hard Up), 12+, 1p, 20', bolts.

    Getting There

    From the northwest extension of Mine Hole Crag, follow a vague trail northwest. After losing the "trail" and continuing uphill and west, some outcrops crop out of the forest. Look for three bolts on a detached phallus. Keep going west to find the other routes. Fin Land lies SW and downhill from Armin's.

    When I first discovered this crag in the '80s, I named it Huck's Fins. I then returned 20 + years later, in winter and added several routes, including a short but sweet spire, which I call Totem Pole, just below. After sending the routes, I realized the name Sun Dial, yes, this is the Sun Dial Crag, one of many unpublished crags I've established in beautiful Boulder Canyon. Love the place!
