Description Suggest change

The northern states of the country include the capital region of New Delhi, which is a climbing destination in itself, but also a common starting point for sevral destinations in the Indian Himalaya, running west to east from Kashmir to Arunachal Pradesh. The region boasts thousands of majestic high peaks, swept by enormous glaciers and flanked by spectacular granite boulderfields.

Getting There Suggest change

The nearest major airport to access Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand (home of the Garhwal Himalaya) is Delhi, from where you will need to ride a bus (or two). You could also fly into Leh, in Kashmir, from Delhi, if you can handle the elevation (about 11,500'). To get to the northeastern states, your nearest major airport is Calcutta (Kolkata). Trains and buses will take you from here to most large towns in the northeast.
