Is it just me or are the 11 bolts on this line a b...

Echo Canyon Seasonal Closure: Jan. 1 - second Saturday in April MORE INFO >>>

Description

This route starts up Pale Rider then breaks right at the third bolt. As with Pale Rider there is no distinct crux, though getting off the ground is probably the most difficult move.

Either clip the third bolt with a long sling or unclip it after clipping the fourth bolt to prevent rope drag. You could skip the third bolt all together, but you would hit the ground if you came off close to the fourth bolt without clipping the third and it's not that the climbing is hard, but the rock is chossy enough to be worried.

Still quite dirty, but once it cleans up it will be an alright route.

Location

This shares the start with Pale Rider and branches right at the third bolt. The start is two routes right of Maple Jones (the route with glue in bolts).

Protection

lots and lots of bolts, very overbolted like Fist Full of Dollars and Pale Rider. Eleven bolts to a two chain anchor.

Looks like someone used the chains for this route as target practice. A few of the chain links are severely damaged. One link has about 1/8" of metal left. Until the chains get replaced, be sure to clip the hangers or at least clip above the damaged links.

We added new 5/16" chains to the route today. However, we were unsuccessful in clipping the old ones off. May need to come back with heavier duty tools. Thus there is a safe set of chains and an old mangled set on this route as of 5.12.17. Anchor bolts still just have 1 set of quicklinks through them and are solid.

I removed the damaged chains today. Let's hope the new ones don't become target practice as well.
