Went to high cliff several times last year, and actually started working on a few routes not posted on this site I want to put up later this year. There are some really nice boulder problems plus some decent top-roping. Personally I think these climbs mountainproject.com/v/a-red… are the best.
The rock varies in quality and a lot of the routes are fairly dirty and have loose rock because they do not get climbed much or chossy bands of loose rock are located within the climbs (like big swing face).
One thing I kind of get sketched out with at high cliff is the amount of hikers milling around on top of the cliffs. Unsupervised kids are always kicking down rocks and I get a little worried they are going to mess with the top-rope setups.
Overall though the climbs are easy to get to, and whenever I go up to Appleton to see family I always make a point of stopping there for a few hours. If you are in that area it is definitely worth it, plus it would be great to get some more traffic on these climbs to keep them clean.
Some friends and I spent a couple of summer week-ends there back in the mid 80's. We climbed about 90 routes, ground up with no pre-inspection or cleaning. Topping out was always the scariest part. We didn't do any top roping.
The "beach" there was always full of good-looking chicks from the Appleton area.
