Description

Beautiful lime stone cliff band overlooking Herb Lake (Wekusko Lake). There are a number of 30 to 45 foot top rope and trad routes here as well as some boulder problems. All the route anchors are accessible from the top. Some to the anchor bolts are old and rusty, some went in in 2016.

This area contains boulders, face and crack climbs with one horizontal roof. Things are a little dirty as the cliffs don't see that much climbing action. There is room for development of new routes and boulder problems here.

Herb Lake Landing is a pretty cool place, but unless you're up there anyway, its probably not worth the drive from Winnipeg.

Getting There

Herb Lake Landing is about 6-7 hours north of Winnipeg. Access Highway 39 either from highway 6 (Winnipeg/Thompson) or highway 10 (The Pas/Flin Flon). Turn north at signs for Herb Lake Landing and Tawow Lodge.

Stay right when you get to a fork in the road and park at the Gathering Place picnic area.

To get to the top rope bolts hike up the Ted Taylor and Snowball trail to the lake overlook.

To get to the boulders, walk along the road to the first property on the right (abandoned looking). Skirt the edge of this property and head uphill behind the abandoned sheds.

WEKUSKO SOUTH bouldering is not accessed from the same parking area.

Tetanus V5 6C  North America : Canada : ... : Herb Lake Bouldering
This is the classic line of Herb Lake Landing and reminds me a lot of Bishop's Iron Man. Its a beautiful sloping rail traverse ending with a couple big moves to the lip of the boulder.Start matched on the jug on the far left edge of the boulder partially outside the cave. Do some clever footwork to get hands and feet established on the rail and traverse right. Eventually get to the jug and pull the lip....[more]   Browse More Classics in International
