@Jason - Is that where the Petzl crew is heading this weekend?

+1 to buy a guide book.

+1 to check out the area under the "destinations" on MP.com

Free blm land camping if you head south out of Almo, past the big log gates and you'll see the dirt road heading west. Drive down it, find a place to camp.

Alternatively, head to the Durfee hotsprings, pay for a campsite. If you smoke, bring some tobacco, because there isn't any in the whole town.

Thx for that tip. Climbing isn't a big enough addiction as it is. Always looking for another ball and chain.

Just sayin - dirty adam was such a bitch last year when we were there. When nico-addicts don't get their buzz it's like PMS.

You're probably gone now, but maybe someone else will find this helpful:

I dirtbagged at the City a few years ago... here's some beta you might not find in the guidebook:

A warning about Bingham's guidebook: don't expect supertopo format and details such as:
- how long the route is - often need to a 70, 2 ropes, or walk-off the top, so good idea to tie knot in end of rope (lots of loweing accidents at the city)
- whether or not there is an anchor at the top of the climbs - be prepared to build an anchor and walk off if it's unclear.

Also, don't space out like i did on deciphering the difference between a sport route and a mixed route... I remember a pretty sketchy runout on what I initially thought was a fully bolted sport climb... bring some pro up w/you when in doubt, and definatley bring some to the crag because if you get lost in the maze of rock formations, you might need it.

CAMPING
some free BLM nearby... can't remember directions

FOOD
if you don't bring enough produce, your SOL. ALso, don't forget the condoms... I drove in a 180mile loop to find some!!!

CROWDS
expect em memorial day weeked but w/some effort you can get away from people

REST DAYS
good opportunity to put on the running shoes and scout around so you don't waste half the day when you're climnbing

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
