Two towers of purple quartzite meet up at the crack between them. Walking up there used to be a large cobble that was lodged above the space to belay, but it has fallen.

Getting There

Hike about a half mile down the tumbled rocks trail from the parking lot by Messenger Creek looking out for when you see two very large boulders on your left far up (mid-way to the wall) a talus field from the trail, then you should navigate up the talus until you see Dead Tree Wall. The Hangman Towers will be on your left if you are facing Dead Tree Wall. I am apologize I don't have a better description but I have not seen this climb on Mountain Project before, the guidebook has only a brief description.

From the guidebook by Sven Olof Swartling,"There are scattered rocks which deserve some mention 100 to 500 feet north of Dead Tree Wall. ... Deep inside corner and crack with overhang. ... To avoid the possibility, use an incredibly dirty chockstone".

The crack starts out about a foot wide with a flake to the left with a crack in it that takes gear well. Moving up the crack, it gets smaller above the flake and then larger once again. When you are above the flake, you should be able to use a #3 BD cam and some hexes to protect. The crack constric...[more]   Browse More Classics in Wisconsin
