Description

This is the slide which lies east of the True North Slide beneath the col between Gothics and Armstrong. It features several easy ice flows broken up by a few tree islands, and a pretty good view! Several areas can easily be bypassed off to the sides if warranted, but when we there where nice, even fat ice flows to link up the entire length of the slide, though they are not sustained, unfortunately. To exit, the Range Trail can be accessed not too long of a bushwhack off the top. You will likely end up near the Beaver Meadow Junction at the fir wave in the col between Armstrong and Gothics if you head up as directly up as you can after finishing, or if you bear climbers-left slightly.

We climbed this and had a thoroughly enjoyable day of bushwhacking with a nice little bit of easy ice climbing, more like ice scrambling. However, I would not consider this a destination climb.

Be aware that when snow is more prevalent, this slide could run the danger of avalanches. It is also fairly isolated and you are a long way from help.

Location

Locate the large drainage shared by the North Face, the True North Slide, and the Armstrong Slide, about ten minutes after passing Ore Bed Lean-to. The drainage diverges shortly thereafter, with the North Face in view. The left branch leads, with much bushwhacking, to the base of the slide. A small slab will be encountered along the way early on- stay on the main drainage to go to Armstrong Slide (this is near the base of the True North Slide)

Protection

Mountaineering axe and 10-point crampons were sufficient
