Gathering for Rich Bechler 12/4

Saturday December 4th at 1:00 At Devils Lakes south shore we will have a gathering to remember and celabrate our fellow climber Rich Bechler who past on last week. Rich was a pivatol figure in the Midwest Climbing community devoloping Routes, Climbing areas and leaving a swath of First Ascents behind. Rich helped influence a generation of climbers leaving a trail of "R" and "X" rated head points.

This is a DLFA sactioned event!

If you can't attend in person please face the Bird Mound, lift a cheap swill, and give a club salute. Let's hear "whoop whoop" from all over the US at 1pm CST on 12/4.

Coming through O'hare on the 3rd on my way back from HK, I'll be renting a car if anyone needs a ride.

If anyone has some spare shoes....

Will be working an early season Santa gig at that exact time, so can't enjoy some swill at the stroke of 1PM. But will spill some on a chunk of quartzite here at home later that evening for sure.

I was pretty darned sad to hear the news. Rich was arguably the most talented of our sorry lot. That said, I never never knew him to look down on anyone.

We could all do well to learn from his example.

okay, I,m in! booked my tickets to the old country. will be at devils lake friday am. bringing harnes and shoes. will someone meet me there with a rack and a rope. would love to throw a rope on acid rock,flake route,upperd. dont really care if its too cold lets pull down.friday nite lets party. saturday more of the same.Do It Fer yer club and prunes. peace etc. steve s.

Yet another shameless bump in prune,s memory.
Since Dave groth posted the info on the DLFA sanctioned event mentioned above ,we thought there should be another DLFA sanctioned event on Friday the 3rd

Leo, I remember Baraboo,s finest coming into the square tavern and I definitely remember you lurking by the back door. Now why was that?
I seem to remember quite a few twisted evenings getting their start at the square tavern. Once Rich came spinning out of there with his gerber knife out and proceeded to roll across the hood of John Baldwins moms car, well the cops saw this and yelled at him to stop , which to Rich meant RUN!!!!,he zoomed down the street and climbed up a building and disapeared into the nite. I also seem to vaguely recall some story of Rich pushing Curly thru the large plate glass window of the pizza place next door. accidently of course. i,m sure we can recall more tales of debauchery.
