BETA PHOTO: The Gateway Fin, as seen en route to the Cunningha...

The Gateway Fin is the first cluster of rock en route to the main area of the Cunningham Falls bouldering area of Catoctin Mountain Park. It is a 15 foot fin-like protrusion roughly 150 feet into the woods from the rock slab on the Hog Rock Trail. Although some possible lines are on this rock, it is better served as a waypoint to the better climbs of the area.

Getting There

Starting at the junction sign of the Hog Rock Nature Trail and the Falls Nature Trail, hike uphill on the Hog Rock Trail. After about 100 feet or so, the trail passes directly over a broad slab of rock. Turn left off of the trail and bushwhack for about 150 feet. The Gateway Fin is the first rock cluster encountered when bushwhacking north towards the main area.
