Description

A choice venue for high quality alpine sport climbs on bomber central Switzerland granite. It is a south-facing wall that gets lots of sunlight. The Goeschenen valley does not see a lot of human traffic, and this area is off the beaten path.

Getting There

From Goeschenen, follow the small road towards the Goescheralp. Park on the side of the road just after the tiny village of Gwuuest, and follow an unpaved road up the south slope of the valley past a few small huts. At the end of the road, continue by trail up the south slope, gaining significant elevation. At the last hut, perched at the edge of a small plateau, cross the plateau (trail is somewhat faint through the high grass) and resume ascending the south slope on a more clear trail that, at times, passes through boulder fields, to the base of the wall.

The approach takes around 90 minutes and a decent amount of energy.

A moderate yet very interesting "semi-trad" route with highly varied climbing. Pitches go at 5c, 6a-, 5a, 5a, 6a, 5b. Another route begins just to the left of Gatsch and shares the first belay. Although more difficult (6a), it is recommended to climb this instead of the unpleasant intro chimney of Gatsch. From the first belay, the Gatsch route ascends diagonally to the left along a nice crack line, and then back to the right along another good crack. Don't be deceived by a line of bolts ascendin...[more]   Browse More Classics in International
