RAIN, WET ROCK and RAPTOR CLOSURES: The sandstone around Moab is fragile and is very easily damaged when it is wet. Also please ask and be aware of Raptor Closures in areas such as CAT WALL and RESERVOIR WALL in Indian Creek MORE INFO >>>

This is the section of cliff roughly mid-way up Long Canyon on the north side in the vicinity of the massive forming arch. There are some high quality climbs established primarily by Karl Kelley as well as Jay Smith and others which have been published in K3's recently released guidebook High on Moab. Be sure to look up at the apex of the roof in the arch to see what must surely be the most improbably located set of dinosaur tracks around.

Getting There

Drive up Long Canyon to where the road starts to climb uphill; look for the Huge forming arch and park roughly below it in a pull out on the right. Take the time and scan around and you'll find cairns; there's a trail but it's faint. The trail climbs steeply, aiming for a gully below the arch which is the path of least resistance through the Chinle band. The trail leads to the Arch and then heads down canyon where the majority of the established routes are spread out along the walls.

The climb starts with a short section of mellow climbing on features to a horizontal crack, clip a bolt above your head and do a short boulder problem to reach the beginning of the crack. It felt about v4 to me but it might feel a bit harder for shorter folks. Above the boulder ...[more]   Browse More Classics in Utah
