Flying Buttress from across river

This is the massive, most striking buttress in the area. It is across the river and to the south of Winter Wall. There is one known 5.9 on this wall, and the potential for many more.

Aptly named by Dave Vaughn and Dougal McCarty back in the early 70's. In July 1987, a massive portion of the buttress collapsed, burying the base area of this cliff (along with some popular boulders) as well as temporarily blocking the access road.

Getting There

From Four Corners, take Hwy 84 towards Norris. After reaching the river, drive for a few more miles and take a left on a dirt road directly across from Red Mountain Campground (Bear Trap canyon access. If you cross the river you've gone too far). Drive down this dirt road (past the Wind Farm and Crew Crag) for about 1.7 miles. Park at any of the pullouts before reaching/past the buttress.
