Fixed rope Fridays Folly Ledge 3rd flatiron

My partner and I had an accident on the original second pitch of Fridays Folly on Saturday afternoon. While leading in the chimney below the massive chockstone, he dislodged a microwave size block taking a substantial leader fall. We left some slings and a cam or two on the second pitch and our rope is fixed to the eyebolt at the top of the first pitch.

The weather does not look too good this week for flatiron climbing but the rope would be easily retrievable for anyone doing the regular rappel off the back of the third flatiron. I don't recommend using the fixed cord to rap as it may be damaged. Please send me a PM if anyone happens to retrieve the rope.

Big thanks to Rocky Mountain Rescue, Alpine Rescue, Boulder county and the others who helped with the evacuation.

Eddie, thanks for retrieving and returning the rope. That's the climber spirit in my book.
Stitch and Kevin, thanks for the good thoughts, but I didn't come out of this one completely OK.
Aside from the usual cuts and bruises, I broke my back and severely damaged my upper left arm (torn biceps tendon, labrum, and rotator cuff). But I'm recovering and in pretty good shape. Already had back surgery, and I hope the shoulder can get healed. I should be home in a few days.
I'm writing an account of the accident for whatever interest and educational value it may have, and I'll post it online soon.

Glad you're ok. Hope recovery goes well.
