Hey all,

I'm headed to the valley with a non-climber friend to (hopefully) see the firefall this weekend. I was thinking about getting some jugging just for practice's sake. Does anyone know about the current conditions of those lines?

Thanks in advance!

There's a firefall? I thought those stopped years ago.

I am assuming he means the natural one.

Not the olde' timey ones where they push hot coals off the edge.

Haha yes, the natural one. Pretty sure they aren't still pushing coals over the edge! (Hope not anyway!) violetteta8

Yeah, this is the "natural" firefall. Taken last Saturday 2/13 on a quick weekend Valley trip. I didn't even know that my visit coincided, but when we got down from Nutcracker into the Manure Pile parking lot there were literally 40-50 people out with tripods and telephoto lenses set up.

FYI - If you want to find a parking spot, I recommend getting to wherever you plan on sitting at least 2 hours before sunset. Parking gets SCARCE. We came down to an overflowing parking lot with people double-parked all over the place blocking other cars, tripods set up in the middle of the parking lot, etc.

Bump for conditions update:

All the fixed lines were in pretty good shape. The 4th(i believe) line from the bottom is pretty wet as it lays where water runs during this time of year. Otherwise, it was a beautiful day to be on El Cap!

The firefall was also impressive. The light didn't get super tight on the water itself (to make it like look like lava) but it did provide some impressive lighting and glowing around Horsetail fall.
