BETA PHOTO: Five Tree (5.3), Joshua Tree NP

Description

This is the left of two approach cracks to gain the upper level routes starting halfway up the face. Not especially exciting but it does provide an alternate approach that goes at an easier grade.

Location

The obvious wide crack/gully with a tree just right of Leap Year Flake.

Protection

Gear to 4"

I believe the Vogel guide calls this a 4th class gully. It certainly is harder than 4th class and 5.3 seems right. With two trees baring the way the name Five Tree is appropriate. Gets you easier access to the upper tier routes.
