Fessenden Crag is a super secluded small cliff on the Massachusetts and New Hampshire border. It's a very wooded and shady area. The cliff face has a couple interesting routes which can be considered highball bouldering, but I would use ropes. There are a few scattered boulders as well as the cliff. Super sharp gritty granite with large crystalline structure. This is a small area. It is not a destination worthy but if you're local, it's worth a look.

Getting There

The long ass approach: park at the end of Fessenden Hill Road. Walk past the gate on the jeep trail/road. If you find Fessenden Block, continue past up the hill. Take a left onto an unmarked trail. Currently there's some regrind asphalt and some plastic for erosion control at the beginning of the trail. Take the trail to the "T", and hang a right. The cliff face will be a short ways up on the left. You can't miss it.

The short approach: park on the cul-de-sac on W. Hill Road in Brookline, NH. Be courteous, because this is a nice, quiet neighborhood. Walk past the gate where you cross over into Massachusetts. Take your second right onto the trail described above with the regrinds. Hang a right at a "T". You can't miss the cliff.

Sit start in the left nostril. Pull up, move your left hand up on the arete, and get your right hand further up the nostril. Hit the sloper left, and then with the right feet (heel hook high as you can), hit the tip of the nose with a big right. Move along ridge to get a nice foot, and press out to finish....[more]   Browse More Classics in Massachusetts
