The bridge near the top

Description

This is rated as a medium difficulty Ferrata so will be easy for an experienced climber. We took our 7 year old son up it with little difficulty (we had to manually move his clips past each post on steep sections, but he had no difficulty otherwise.) The Ferrata is located in a beautiful setting on the Northern aspect of the Sella Massif, ascending Torre Exner, and has a short easy approach. There is a suspension bridge near the top (kids love that) and a bar and resturaunt at the top. It is very popular, often having a line for climbers ascending it from the base to the summit so probably best avoided on weekends. As the ascent only takes a few hours – an early start (and trek all the way across the Sella Plateau), or starting midafternoon will keep the crowds down a bit.
The climb follows the cables up the east face upwards and leftwards. There are some steep ladders near the top, followed by a suspension bridge and then ending at Rifugio Cavazza.

Location

Location: North side of Sella Massif. Park at the 6th hairpin turn below Passo Gardena at a car park located at 1956 meters. Follow the marked path South, East, then south towards the mountain. You will come to a short steep section of cable – climb this and rejoin a path on the terrace and head towards the mountain wall and the main cable. Alternatively, From Passo Gardena you can hike on path 666 East for about 30 minutes, crossing the Val Setus and joining up with the Ferrata on the path immediately after the initial steep section and then heading south towards the main climb which is located on the East side of the mountain.
Descent: From the Refugio, head northwest on path 666 then down the Val Setus gully directly towards the road in the valley below (or if you parked at Passo Gardena, stay on the fork to the left on path 666 towards the pass. At the bottom of the gully head to your car.
