Description

This boulder is very aesthetic and it begs to be climbed. The Kitten Mittens problem is a tough v3 and I recommend trying this one out as you pass this area. Slopers and knobs from start to finish!

Getting There

Walk past the overlook and onto the trail. pass the Overlook Area which spans down past The Hive Boulder and the tiny Foggy Mountain Fin. After the Fin, your basically out of the Overlook Area.

After Overlook, you will walk around a very tight left turn in the trail (30 seconds past the fin) and now you are in the SLS Area.

After the sharp turn, the next feature you will see is MOW, which is a massive double-decker boulder which looks like a huge mouth (use youre imagination... its a large patio boulder with an even larger, steeply inclined roof boulder on top of the patio).

Directly past MOW is another steep boulder which is Alcatraz. The very top nose of Alcatraz is touching the back of MOW. The steep dark overhanging face is where the Escape problems are located.

Stay on the trail as it turns right and the large boulder beside the trail is the Mike-N-Ike Boulder.

Past Mike and left more will be the Pit Boulder, and the the massive roof beyond this is SLS.

The Feline Fin is just beyond SLS. Continue past SLS and watch to your right off of the trail. The fin is an inclined roof/arete blade.

Six 50 Blade: As you walk down the LRT from the top lookout, continue past MOW and the SLS Roof. as you pass the SLS Roof look off of the trail to the right and you will notice (after several yards) a distant overhanging blade/arete offset from the trail through the open, clear forest. this is the Six 50 Blade. Kitten Mittens sit starts on the right side of the blade/arete and follows the edge of the arete to the left to top out on the far left side of the boulder. sit start on the far, low, lef...[more]   Browse More Classics in Virginia
