Elephant Rock Rock Climbing

See map. Follow the road East from Caxito towards Uige. You will cross the Dande river upon exiting Caxito (take the right fork at the intersection on the East side of town). Continue 30-35 km on the road to Uige looking for an obvious left turn near a small roadside market. There will likely be monkeys for sale on the side of the road here. To confirm you are on the right road, as the locals if this is the way to the villages of Cassoma and Carinha. Follow the dirt road to Cassoma, passing through it and continuing to Carinha, there are a few other dirt roads here, so stay on the one most traveled and track generally north. It is ~10km from the main road to the rock. After passing through Carinha, the rock will be very obvious in front of you. Follow signs to Fazenda Kiamy, but bear left on a tree lined road just before passing in front of the rock. Park on the West flank of the rock and make your way up the shoulder. Rappel in from the shoulder to the edge of the large, steep South face. Traverse along the South Face until you are under a large overhang at the top of the rock and left of an large crack/seam system that splits the middle part of the wall. The route starts just under the overhang and up some finger cracks towards a blocky headwall with bolts.
