Approaching El Yelmo in the early morning (photo b...


El Yelmo is the really obvious high dome that dominates the skyline as seen from most parts of La Pedriza. Most climbs have 3 or 4 pitches, bolted but these are often well-spaced. Mainly friction climbing on good granite. North side of El Yelmo offers shade when south side is too hot.

Getting There 

Walk up easy but steep paths from the back streets of Manzares Real (El Tranco) in about 90 minutes.

The crux is at the very beginning. The guidebook says a "violent move" and I totally agree. After that, it follows some cracks till a steep slab climbing that looks more difficult than what it actually is.
