Description

THIS AREA IS STILL A WORK IN PROGRESS. If you have any info you'd like to add, or have any questions, feel free to contact me.

El Nido is located in the northeastern region of Palawan Island and boasts some of the most picturesque sceneries of the country.

El Nido town is the main hub where one can find lodging, food, and transportation to the many islands and beaches nearby. Corong Corong Beach just south of El Nido town is the home of many cheap hotels and lodges that offer the best views of the bay. El Nido is a peaceful town with lots of places to stay and eat. Locals are friendly and speak English, although find it more comfortable to speak tagalog if you're a native Filipino.

Bacuit Bay boasts a multitude of islands featuring karst limestone cliffs with lots of potential for climbing. It is important to note that Bacuit Bay is a protected marine reserve and turtle sanctuary so extra precautions and strict adherence to Leave No Trace principles should be practiced in order to grow a positive climber rapport with the community.

Rock quality is mostly karst limestone that's as sharp as knives and is merciless to skin. Make sure to bring lots of tape, and bandages for your shredded hands. Fight through the pain and you will find amazing deep water soloing in an area with so much potential for new routes.

As far as access, most of the climbs can only be accessed by either motorized boat or kayak. Motorized boats can be chartered for around PHP4000 for the day, whereas kayaks can be rented for around PHP700 per day.

Camping is allowed on a lot of public beaches, and may or may not require a fee. Papaya Beach next to Seven Commandos Beach allows camping for PHP150/person/night.

Getting There

El Nido is accessible by land or air.

Flights are available from Manila to El Nido through Island Transvoyager Inc.(ITI) for around 350USD.

If you choose to go by land, you can either travel by bus or van from the San Jose Terminal in Puerto Princesa. To get to the terminal from the airport you will need to take a tricycle and pay PHP100-150 although the price can be haggled down. From there you may choose to either take a bus or van.

RoRo and Cherry are the two bus liners you can choose from and offer rates of PHP380-480 for aircon (A/C) and PHP290-385 for non-aircon (rates may have changed). Bus ride to El Nido generally takes 7 hours over windy roads so be prepared if you get car sick.

Vans cost PHP600 from the Terminal to El Nido, but for an extra PHP100 they will pick you up from your hotel, or wherever you're staying in Puerto Princesa. All vans have A/C but will try to fill as many seats as possible, meaning you would most likely be shoulder to shoulder with someone. Fortunately vans stop less frequently and thus the trip to El Nido only takes about 5 hours. One may also choose to charter a van for PHP4000 and fit as many or as few people as they choose. In addition vans will usually drop you off wherever you're staying in El Nido.

Return rates to Puerto Princesa are the same.
