Begin just left of Elusive Butterfly; just right of a roof. Head up and right in a corner to face climbing past 2 bolts leading to an easy crack. Renamed by the FFA (a few weeks after it was done on aid) as the original name was undoubtedly really stupid (e.g.: Suzie's Cream Squeeze) and the route went free at a very moderate grade....[more]   Browse More Classics in California

Randy - Is it true that recent geologic activity in the area has caused Mt. Dutzi to get taller? If so what do you think the current elevation is? Has anyone ever skiied or snowboarded from the summit? Any and all info please on this little know gem - inquiring minds want to know!

Chris, are you refering to the fact/ rumour that Mt. Dutzi is over 14,000'?

Mt. Dutzi is (as Chris is aware) one of the most obscure 14,000 foot peaks in California. Very few peak baggers have ticked this one. I was able to confirm that after the Landers quake, it was uplifted some 12.5 feet! At this rate, look out Mt. Whitney.

Was the historic summit register preserved, as were some of the Sierra peaks a while back, or would that have opened the public's eye to this obscure peak (as this discussion is - oops!).

Well, I guess we have sort of spilled he beans, so to speak. But in answer to your question, the original summit register (an old bamboo bong) was retrieved several years ago. Several of the summit records were incribed on Zig Zag papers! Pretty classic.
