Nope nope nope. I'd rather spend the money and use something that's been manufactured specifically to save my life, instead of tying together a bunch of para-cord.

It's creative I'll give him that. But personally if I'm without a harness I'd rather just tie a swiss seat than try something like that

It's art!

Looks super strong, being made with climbing rope. Great if you have the materials laying around, no money, and are dying to climb. Otherwise, spend the $50.

Funny that some people on that thread comment that it would be great for an emergency... but wouldn't it take, like, a day to tie that thing? I guess it depends on how dire the emergency is...

Reminds me of the video someone posted a few weeks ago about making your own rappel setup & harness, then used it to rap off a bridge.

There are better much better alternatives for emergency harnesses.

Props for creativity though.

Looks fine to me except for joining the two ends with a square knot. Not very practical though.

It looks super cool, but if your down on your luck just tie a Swiss harness.

Uh, that kid in the bridge video is gonna die. The limit of his knowledge and his meager sewing talent will see to that.

You can always make a harness out of some slings but you will have your circulation cut off by the time your done depending on how big the webbing is.

An interesting DIY website, some people really get off on creating things themselves. Even if in the end what they come up with just barely works, and if you add in the time spent working on it, they likely could have just bought what they needed.

As for this home made harness no doubt it works fine. He doesn't say how much he spent on all of the stuff. My guess is you could buy a very basic harness for the same price. Especially if you consider your time to be worth anything.

He is the grand prize winner in the Paracord Contest though so that's gotta be worth something.

From an emergency climbing standpoint there are some simple skills that are good to know. How to tie a swiss seat is a good one, as well as a dulfersitz rappel, neither one is going to be comfy but both will do in a pinch.

Here's another good one. instructables.com/id/Climb-…

I really like this line. "If you are wanting to go climbing and don't already have these items, they can be purchased for about $25 each at most outdoor sporting goods stores."

Going to go out and buy one of those $25 ropes this afternoon.

And this one everybody needs to know. instructables.com/id/10-Sec…

I've noticed that most of the stuff on that website is useless shit that no one needs anyway...

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
