Do climbers dislike weight lifters and/or football players?

I followed a different forum here earlier and there was some serious anti-weightlifter vibe going on. Which got me thinking, do climbers tend to dislike these big musclebound types in general?

I am working on being less judgemental but I have to admit I tend to feel some negativity towards this type of guy... they tend to be loud and they can't send and they get confused thinking that bench press matters when of course we all know that how many pullups you can do is way more important...

Or maybe I'm prejudiced by the drunk football player that broke my college roommates jaw when he tried to stop the jock from picking on some dude with a disability.

Or maybe it was the time in college I just happened to be walking across campus idly chatting with this pretty sorority girl I used to know, and when we ran into Joe Steroid (capt of football team, who I also knew) he just looks at me and asks her (in disbelief), "You're with him??" To which she dutifully replied, "No!" I'm just sitting there thinking, "Ouch, all I did was walked in the same direction she did...I wasn't really planning on having them both stomp on my ego today..."

What a jackass...in fact, they were both jackasses.

But I send way harder than he could in a million years. Plus my wife is better looking than her anyway...

You're still hurt about the Joe Steroid incident, aren't you.

on the flip side they could probably beat ya up .... unless u take some secret judo chop ... even then they still might ...

different priorities ...

everyone needs to hate someone IMO ...

Please post picture so we can confirm! : )

Thing that gets me is that guys and most girls think that tall, muscular = bad ass...I'm a skinny 5'8" but go out and do sh t that would make Joe Steroid wimper for his mommy.

I lift all the time and I dont know any football players except maybe the dudes from high school who were all roided up and are now fat & bald.

Now, lads, would a gnarly old climber like me give a damn what you think anyway? Keeping in mind that this Joe Steroid incident happened back in the 80s, any photographic evidence you would seek is well outdated and irrelevant... as is this entire post... I probably don't recall any of it clearly anyway....I retract all assertions made...

'Do climbers dislike weight lifters and/or football players?'

Absolutely.

I never let them sit at the climber table in the lunch room.
They just aren't cool enough to hang with the climbers.

And this is different from most guys wanting girls with huge boobs and low intelligence?

Most "Normal people" don't get us. Football players or anyone not involved. They want to be bloated and macho in many ways.
We tromp around in the woods, we don't draw attention and do things that make most people shit themselves. We are a totally different breed.

"People are afraid of what they do not understand." Always have always will be.

I love the face on people when I tell them I went on a rock climbing for eight years. Most people don't spend eight days doing what they love. This is why I did not go to my H.S. reunions. Having to explain my awesome life compared to their pathetic domesticated existence. Why bother, they wouldn't understand the feeling you get after a day of putting it all on the line.

Climbing is like under water basket weaving, It is not for everyone. And That is a good thing.

Interesting...

I'm by no means a muscle guy but I was definitely a jock. Basketball, football, baseball, volleyball, etc. I also rode BMX (pretty good too), climb, mountain bike, scuba dive, etc. I never noticed any bad vibes while climbing. Although I do dislike hippies because they smell.

Ive been climbing for a while, and currently write for Deadpoint Magazine. I lift to cross train, and i'm OBSESSED with professional football. To dislike someone for what activities/sports they enjoy is pretty immature and VERY high school.

Based on the responses, it appears the climbing community has spoken:

Climbers absolutely don't have any issues with power lifters!

Taylor is right on about football: I watch a ton of it.

I have nothing against people that lift weights to perform their sport better. People that lifts weights ONLY to look good and feel macho are super lame. I feel no need to bash them though. Serious body builders are cool though.
And who says all serious climbers are skinny? I used to lift weights a ton before i started climbing. Sure it made it harder at first with a finger strength to weight ratio and I had flexibility problems, but now after climbing 4 years, i'm more flexible and have superb grip strength but i still lift weights and have no intentions of loosing muscle mass, and I would like even more so that I can carry a heavier pack and just be fitter and stronger in general. And what's wrong with being a badass climber...and having huge biceps for the ladies?

Perfect segue into something I've been pondering.
You know those bands football players wear just above the elbow?
Anyone have an idea what their function is?
They do only one thing.
Make their biceps swell. That's it. Keep that swell up for physical appearance only.
So now that I've spilled the beans, every one of you shirtless gym rats needs to start rocking the bicep swell bands. I'm amazed this trend hasn't emerged yet. Just watch as the pendulum swings back away from the anti-peacock ethic of jeans and loose t-shirts to tights and tank tops, you'll see the swell bands.
