Directions to Dean Martin boulder

Oddly rectangular boulder with good landings. The down climb involves jumping to the boulder next to it.

Getting There

Take the main trail behind the gate all the way to the big cluster of boulders or to the second sign saying "Under Video Surveillance". From the sign turn back and head into the area from a semi obvious trail. You should see the Cube poking out.

Climbing Season

The boulder used to warm up on. Just behind the bush next to The Cube. Start on the crack going up the boulder but head left on the obvious crack....[more]   Browse More Classics in New Mexico

This is such a nice boulder with better than average rock for the foothills. BITD we called the Four Hills bouldering area the Gaza Strip because of the looming concertina wire bordering Kirtland Air Force Base, and the "Cube" was known as the Dean Martin boulder. The mound just to the east and uphill has some nice crack bouldering as well.

Cool Thanks! I just talked to Tom today about the area. Until now I couldn't find anyone who had explored out there. I figured that someone must have climbed it before. It is definitely one of my favorite boulders close to town.

Isn't there a classic V5? Some alcohol based name or some such. Maybe it it the V3 and we just sucked.
