BOULDERING AROUND THE TOWN OF CUSTER, SD

This page is for the wonderful bouldering around the small town of Custer. In recent years the area has been producing good area after good area. The amount of rock here is endless! Areas like the Swamp Boulder,the American Outlaw Boulders, Ironhorse Boulder and The Chickenpox Boulder are roadside making for a quick outing or a relaxing day.

Getting There

RAPID CITY TO CUSTER

Head out of Rapid City on US 16 towards Hill City.
After about 15 miles you will merge into 385.
Head out of Hill City on 385 south towards the town of Custer.

Weather

This area can be bouldered year around. During the summer months expect afternoon showers move through that quickly dry up.
In some freak weather cases expect some light hail that is nothing to worry about as in July 2015....
