What's the scoop on Croatia climbing? Looks fantastic, I'm thinking of checking it out this May.
What's typical for bolt spacing in feet and any supplemental trad gear? What kinds of things do Croatian climbers like to do differently? Is the limestone reminiscent of any place in the US?
For DWS is it best to hire someone with a boat for the day?
Paklenica is awesome. Anica Kuk has 10 pitch sport routes. There are trad routes here, and some of the long routes are conservatively bolted, so you might want some gear. We brought a small rack just in case. But most of the other area's you'll probably just need draws. The whole country is beautiful. Good food, nice beaches (watch out for sea urchins), and much cheaper than the rest of Europe.
Paklenica is great. We just had a set of stoppers and draws and we got by fine. Didn't really find much of a climbing community, so not sure if you'll be able to find guides to take you deep water climbing.
For guidebooks, we found one for all of Croatia except Paklenica, and one specifically for Paklenica. Both are written by a Boris Cujic and published by Astroida.
Enjoy.
And if you stop by the island Krk, the climbing is junk, but the approach is quite interesting as it takes you through a nudist camp and beach. If there were ever a place to shed all but the harness, this would be it. On the day we made the venture, we opted not to climb and instead joined in for a swim.
I spent a month there, Paklenica is a great park but there is so much as well. I have 2 guide books to the area if you want to email me I can send you more beta of where I went.
