Contrefort de Roche Robert from near the car park

A fair sized 150m high cliff below the prominent Roche Robert, this popular multi pitch venue has easy access with great views of the Ecrins.

This crag has a sunny, south-facing aspect and a spread of moderate to difficult 4 to 6 pitch routes. Some routes names painted at the base.

The corner of the formation to the west contains 6 routes with most at moderate grades:

Miel et des Abeilles – TD
Tête du cuvée – TD/TD+
Che Gevaroux – D+
Voie des Quarantes – AD
Esperon Long de la Route – AD
Esperon court de la Route – AD

The steep yellow wall in the middle has several more difficult routes:

A la recherche de Peter Pan” VIII (VII obl.)
Hélène et les garçons” VII (VI+/VII- obl.)
Le Retour des Pinsutes” VII (VI+/VII- obl.)

Compact limestone with some classic features. The popular routes do have some slick portions!

Getting There

Fair sized parking lots on both side of the road at around 17km east on the D1091 from La Grave and ½ km NW from Pont de l’Alp.

The cliff is visible above the road to the north.

Hike up the steep trail through the woods (white and green paint) and cross over the horizontal Chemin du Roy path continuing up to the base of the crag. Allow around 30 minutes for the approach.

Some of the climbs have their names painted at the bottom of the route.

Descent for the west-most routes is down to the west on a somewhat loose trail. Locate this trail by hiking up from the top of the routes to near the summit of the formation.

The descent trail leads back to the base of the routes.

A fun moderate multi pitch route which climbs quickly and has great views. The first pitch climbs up a flat, well featured limestone face with great incut edges. Finishes up a steep bit to a shared belay with Voie Chegevaroux. A couple of options to start with the left side being a bit harder.Second pitch climbs past a shared bolt then breaks to the right through some loose rock (take care!) up to the ledge below the prominent chimney.Ascend the chimney (slick, polished limestone) or climb out ...[more]   Browse More Classics in International
