BETA PHOTO: Rough map of boulders

This is a small area on land trust land that only recently received the ok for climbing. Please treat the area with the utmost respect as there are many houses within earshot of most of the climbing. As of now and thanks to the work of Adam Buteau, the town has given permission to climb there. If the area gets overrun and climbers don't behave, that could change.

Getting There

In Smithfield, NW of Providence, just outside the Rt 295 ring. From "From Greenville, take Pleasant View Avenue (Route 116) north to Swan Road, then follow Swan Road to its end, about 1.5 miles. At the T junction with Mann School Road, go right and then almost immediately take a left onto Connors Farm Road. After about 0.3 miles, look for a small parking area on the left between houses numbered 20 and 24."

The southern entrance is reached by going left on Mann School Road from the T for ~6/10s of a mile and it will be on your right. It can handle up to 3 cars and is the most direct for the Fortress.

You can find a little more information and photos on the above site.

Initially an attempt on the Project V8 (#3 in photo), ended up following a great line of its own over the roof. Sit start matched at the lowest point and move up and slightly left, gaining an OK crimp under the roof (crux). Move out to the jug from General Zod (#1 in photo) and throw to lip, finishing (based on photo) left of Man of Steel (#2 in photo)....[more]   Browse More Classics in Rhode Island

Nice to see some new activity going on in the state and people actually sharing. Thanks Joe and Adam. Looks like a great new area. Looking forward to checking it out.

So where do you park? Kind of sparse with your descriptions/directions as usual, Joe ;)

According to the map I have, there are 3 parking areas, but the one I use is a grass parking area on Connors Farm Drive. Its between two houses and is not very big, you can fit maybe 5 or 6 cars. This entrance is tucked in the back of a very nice culdasac so please carpool if you can so we dont clutter the street.

Glad to see this place get some access. The Fortress wall is fairly close to some houses if I remember correctly. Is that area now legal also?

Dana, surpisingly, the Fortress is now part of the park (I don't think it was originally) AND there is a small legit parking area about 100 yards away (next to a giant under construction house).

How did I not know about this earlier? It is right near Spragueville for God's sake.

Sorry Mark, I hadn't been there in a few years but we always kept it quiet because of access concerns. Glad to finally be able share it...
