I cut my middle toe about 1/8" or maybe a little deeper... All the way thru the skin and into the fatty tissue. It stopped bleeding now and seems sealed up now (48 hours later) but it's pretty painful with any pressure on it. How long until I can climb? How do I know I'm healed enough to climb? I have a trip this weekend with climbing on Friday-Sunday that I hope I won't miss.
Middle toe, 1/8" cut, should be climbing easy. I once cut the complete epidermis off my big toe whilst chasing a bear (thats another story). The folks in the Yosemite clinic cleaned it up nicely, I took two days off, taped that sucker up, and then climbed the Lost Arrow Spire Tip.
Gunks Jesse wrote:Did the same thing about 4 weeks ago, but essentially sheared off the end of my big toe. Bled for a long time! I climbed about 5 days after the injury, and it was almost completely healed within 2 weeks. I kept it super clean and put anti-biotic on it twice a day plus kept it bandaged.
Exactly! That's really your biggest concern; keeping it clean. If you put a little antibiotic ointment on there once or twice a day, it will heal faster. Get some first aid tape and band aids and change the dressing twice every 24 hours. The band aids are good size but fall off too easy, so put a wrap of tape over the band aid.

Toss on some Iodex if you have it, that stuff works wonders for me.
I used some gas station knock off super glue which didn't hold well. It kept tearing off while I climbed. I took it pretty easy and wore my comfy shoes. On later days I used krazy glue which seemed better. I let two coats of it dry and then used a butterfly and a bandaid and then wrapped the toe in climbing tape. That kept the cut skin together nicely. Not sure if it would have been good to leave it open and keep it clean with ointment. Now that I'm done climbing I won't keep using super glue.
