BETA PHOTO: Cliff Trail Boulders

The Cliff Trail is a steeper and longer trail to Cunningham Falls from the Hunting Creek Lake. Numerous developed and undeveloped problems exist along the trail.

Getting There

Start at the Cunningham Falls parking area, near Hunting Creek Lake (near the Houck Area) and follow the upper (Cliff) trail. Follow the Cliff Trail (Yellow Blazes) a few hundred feet up to large clearing with several prominent large boulders. The first boulder you come to is the Flying Squirrel Boulder. There is a blaze on this boulder, it sits on the right of the trail as you walk up from the parking lot.

Start deep in cave on large flake. Move up flake to jug, the make huge right hand throw to sloping lip. It feels like a jug if you reach it! Get feet up on right, match on sloping lip, then move up through desperate jugs straight up into the "V". A bit mossy at the top, but the jugs are good....[more]   Browse More Classics in Maryland

Does anyone know what problems are established on the Jonah Boulder to the right of General Relativity? I climbed three problems there today, each somewhere in the V4-6 range. (I'm new to the area and don't really know the MD grading conventions, but they all felt a bit easier or harder than the Belly and Flying Squirrel dyno.) The problems started seated on a good crimp rail, with obvious exits left, right, and center. I figure all have been climbed before.

Absent objection I will add three problems to the area, along with a beta photo showing the lines: Special Relativity (v5/6); Special Relativity Right Exit (v4); and Moral Relativity (v4). I don't believe these are FAs and I apologize if someone has given them names already, but I can't find any information on these lines and I tried to pick thematic titles in keeping with General Relativity.

Conor, I don't have any objection to you adding those lines. I didn't do a ton of climbing there, myself, but if someone gives me or you more info I'll be happy to update.

OK, I've added three problems. Let me emphasize that I thought they were very high quality (other than the Belly, I thought Special Relativity was the best problem in the area) and extremely fun to climb. I graded them all on the soft side (nothing in the area felt sandbagged) so folks should give 'em a downgrade as needed.
