Description

Mostly shady. The main trail to the top of Echo Cliff is pretty crowded, but there is not much off trail traffic other than the occasional roped climber. The rock is good in some places (fantastic in one or two places) and bad in a lot of places. The rock type appears to be the same as the Pinnacle Pullout Boulders. I think this is a new area, but if it is not send me a P.M. with any info I missed. There is more potential in this area above the main cliff and some high ball possibilities at the 5th cliff. I have not done much exploring beyond these three cliffs but I think that there is a lot more rock to find in the area.

Getting There

Park at the Panther Mountain Trail pull out on Old Piseco Road Route 24, across from the Little Sand Point Campground. Hike up the trail for 15-20 mins. until you pass a large cube boulder on the left side of the trail. Walk abt. 100 feet up hill from the cube to a boulder that is about 3 feet tall facing to the left (away from the trail). Last time I was there I stacked three rocks, but that might be gone by now. The climber's trail goes off the left side of the main trail for about 600 feet keeping parallel to the cliff band on the right (I stacked more rocks). After 600 feet head straight up hill to the cliff band on the right. The best cliff band is the 3 rd cliff band; the first two bands did not have any obvious lines. The third cliff is the best that I have found in the vicinity.

Start matched under the roof on a small crimp. Work some trickery to get to two pockets above the roof on either side of the blunt arete. Big moves and awkward holds then get you to the top....[more]   Browse More Classics in New York
